Is your child interested in joining the Laurel Woods Elementary School Band or Orchestra? GREAT!!! Playing in the Band or Orchestra can be one of the most rewarding experiences a child can have in school. And, signing up couldn't be easier.
Your child has seen my presentation in school about signing up for Band or Orchestra. (Hopefully they mentioned that already.) In that presentation, I went over the whole procedure for signing up. A copy of the Recruiting Packet went home in every 3rd, grade student's Friday Folder on Thursday, September 2nd. Packets were also available for interested 4th and 5th grade students in their pod areas. If you didn't get one, don't worry. Click here to get a copy. Be sure you and your child read the entire packet carefully. There is a lot of important information in there.
The last page of the packet is the Instrumental Music Permission Slip. If your son or daughter would like to participate in the Band or Orchestra, they must turn this in. No child will be allowed to begin Band or Strings without a SIGNED permission slip. On the permission slip, your child (with your help) should select two instruments they would be interested in playing. Although most students can get their first choice, for several reasons, that may not be possible and in that case, I need to know what their second choice would be. (Students who played in the Band or Orchestra last year and are playing the same instrument do not need to make a second instrument choice.) No child who played an instrument with me last year will be allowed to switch to a different instrument unless we have discussed it first.
Returning (Intermediate or Advanced) students were automatically placed in lesson groups on the instrument they played last year. If they do not wish to participate, PLEASE let me know as soon as possible so I can plan accordingly. Also please contact me if your child had wanted to switch instruments since, in most cases, they will need to re-enroll in the program as a beginner.
ALL PERMISSION SLIPS ARE DUE TO ME NO LATER THAN WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 15TH!!!!!!!
Once I have received all permission slips, I will give your child a schedule letting them know when their first lesson is. No instruments are needed at the first lesson, but they will be needed at the second lesson.
